PLA: PLA is a cold bed filament that prints best when the 3D Printer also has a filament fan. It is a plastic made from corn or Soy starches and is biodegradable, generally over 5-15 years.
ABS: An Engineering plastic which is more flexible than PLA (less likely to shatter), but with a higher shrinkage than PLA, so warping and splitting of prints is more of a problem
ASA: An Engineering plastic similar to ABS, but UV and chemical resistant, easy to print (less warping) and less fumes
PCTG: Similar to PETG
PET-G: Also known as T-Glass, a filament resistant to water and chemicals, as used in drink bottles. Highly durable like Nylon, but easier to print due to lower shrinkage.
PHA: A harder, stronger material than PLA, but prints at PLA settings on a control bed. We have tested this on the Makerbot 5th generation of printers without issue
Specialty Filaments: these include wood, brick, dissolvable (PVA and HIPS), food grade and metals

Proto-pasta Magnetic Iron PLA - as its name implies - responds to magnets and behaves similarly to pure iron, even to the point of rusting! Magnetism opens up a new world of practical applications and fun creations.
It extrudes at 190-200 degrees c on a cold bed. We have tested on buildtak wit glue stick and it sticks well. Prints best at thicker resolutions like 300 microns, but will look like 100 micron. Our tests showed no spider webbing at all, and models held water after printing. It can lift in unsupported areas, but quickly recovers on the next layer. Sands nicely with very course sandpaper. Can get rust effect by submerging in with salty water for 2-3 hours. In our tests it was not too abrasive on nozzle, but recommend a wear resistant nozzle.

The first of the PCTG-based composites we developed was a carbon fibre version - PCTG CF10. The carbon fibres used give the filament an extremely high stiffness, while reducing the brittle fracture typical for other PETG-based carbon composites. PCTG CF10 filament allows the printing of parts with increased hardness and tensile strength compared to classic PCTG. This Bilby3D PLA filament is clear. The optical clarity will depend on how well each strand of filament that is printed melts with the surrounding material. If the strands are not pushed together, the curves of the strands will bend light giving it a white appearance (same way that air bubles in water look white). We have had some success with annealing the printed part by placing in an oven at around 60-80 degrees for 5-10mins.

Created from our highest quality, translucent HTPLA v2, we carefully introduce just the right amount of blue pigment and sparkle for a cool, wintry blue. A very dynamic and deep color, the blue concentration creates a light blue color that can extend both towards a silvery green and a deep dark purple depending on form and light. The additional glitter bits sometimes disappear and in other light bring a frosty finish which make the blue look almost snow-covered. Notes about Temperature
The problem with specifying a melting temperature is that each machine is different. Thermistors are the most common temperature sensors in Reprap based printers.
Their absolute temperature is not very accurate, but it is consistant in itself - so a filament that works at 180°C will always work at that temperature,
even though it may actually be running at 195°C. We have non-contact infrared thermometers coming which can give a measurement to ±2%
